The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025 tests candidates across two papers: General Studies Paper I and the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). Understanding the exact topic-wise syllabus is the first step toward building a structured preparation plan.

GS PAPER I (200 marks, 100 questions):
Current events of national and international importance. History of India and Indian National Movement. Indian and World Geography — physical, social, economic geography of India and the world. Indian Polity and Governance — Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues. Economic and Social Development — Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives. General issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change — that do not require subject specialisation. General Science.

CSAT (200 marks, 80 questions — qualifying at 33%):
Comprehension. Interpersonal skills including communication skills. Logical reasoning and analytical ability. Decision making and problem solving. General mental ability. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude) — Class X level. Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency) — Class X level.

STRATEGY: Polity, Economy, and Environment together produce 40–55 questions every year. Prioritise these three before History and Geography. CSAT requires 66 marks out of 200 to qualify — do not neglect it.
